Call for expressions of interest
We are seeking architectural firms interested in participating in Stage Two of the project Reducing Carbon Emissions – a guide for architectural practices.

The NSW Architects Registration Board embarked on a project in 2007 to become carbon neutral. As a result of this project, the Board determined to produce Reducing Carbon Emissions - a guide for architectural practices aimed at assisting small architectural practices wishing to reduce their carbon emissions.

The Board selected 4 firms to participate in Stage 1 of the project. Each firm undertook an energy audit which involved data collection of energy bills, office equipment, travel etc. Data was entered in a template tailored for their specific needs and practices were able to calculate carbon (CO2) emissions and gradually develop a plan which would ultimately assist in reducing greenhouse gas emission in their business.

As a result, the Board has now produced a draft set of guidelines which includes practical advice, tools, templates, useful websites and most importantly, case studies to assist small practices in reducing carbon emissions and to take make the task less onerous.

The Board is calling for Expressions of Interest from NSW architectural firms comprising a maximum of 15 staff to participate in Stage 2 of the project which will test the draft guidelines in February/March 2009 in preparation for the guidelines to be broadly available in April 2009. Applications close Tuesday 9 December 2008. For more information, contact Siobhan Abdurahman on (02) 9241 4033 or siobhana@architects.nsw.gov.au

Reminder to Architects and Architect Corporations and Firms
Many architects and architect corporations and firms are still not including their registration number, or in the case of a corporation or firm, the name and registration number of the nominated architect on business correspondence and advertising. This omission constitutes a breach of an architect’s obligations under the NSW Architects Code of Professional Conduct. Looking positively at this obligation, including the architect registration number is an accurate and easy method of informing clients, potential clients and the public of your registration status as an architect.

Christmas holidays office closedown
